The provincial government is looking for feedback on the rental situation in New Brunswick.
This is a part of a review into rental housing in the province.
Renters, landlords and developers can submit their personal stories until April 7th.
Submissions can be made through their website, or by call 211.
To better understand the factors at play within the current New Brunswick rental housing landscape, the provincial government will be:
- collecting market and rental data to assess the current situation as well as short and long-term trends;
- looking at what is happening in other jurisdictions; and
- talking with New Brunswickers and stakeholder groups within the province.
Public submissions will be accepted through the website www.gnb.ca/rentals. Answers will be submitted anonymously.
The review is being carried out by a group of public servants, from several departments including, the Department of Finance and Treasury Board, Service New Brunswick, Opportunities NB, and the Departments of Social Development and Justice and Public Safety.
Meanwhile, a group aimed at promoting and protecting tenants’ rights says they are pleased to see the review taking shape.
The New Brunswick Coalition for Tenants Rights said Wednesday they have received an invite from the Rental Review Project team to meet with them.
“We look forward to sharing our concerns with the government,” the group said in a short statement.
But the coalition maintains that renters need help now, not after the 90-day rental review.
Among other things, they are calling for a moratorium on evictions and a rental cap.
“We hope that this review will result in the recognition of the need for a complete overhaul of the legislative framework for tenancies to better protect tenants.”
