It was a bittersweet week for the owners of Parklane Bowling Centre in Riverview.
The Centre that has provided entertainment since the 1960’s has been sold.
Kelly Stoyles says she married into the family that owned the Centre. They took over Parklane in the 1980’s.
She says the pandemic took its toll, financially and they thought this was just the right time, “When we closed last March, we assumed like the rest of the world that this would just be a temporary closure. Coming up to September, when our league would normally start in full, my husband Todd came to me at the last minute, I think this is the time, if we want to put it on the market, this would be a good time.”
Stoyles says she is excited for the new Owners though, the Holy Whale Brewing Company, who will not be shutting down the lanes.
“I think the new owners are going to have a great success and I am very excited for them. It would have been a lot of work. We would have had to hire extra staff, and we would have only been able to open at half capacity, which was not feasible for us,” Stoyles says.
She says there is a lot of history there, “Our seniors are one of the staples of Parklane. We had leagues that were full of seniors. We had many fundraiser’s over the years for sports teams, for people who were sick. We’ve had birthday parties and weddings, and other events. It has brought a lot to Riverview. Friendships have been formed, from not just Riverview, but surrounding communities as well.”
Stoyles says once the centre reopens, she’ll be there, “We’ll all be going back. I’ll be bowling again. I grew up bowling and I bowled competitively in the 80’s and 90’s and that is how I met my husband Todd.”
At the end, most of the staff at Parklane were family. “Todd was the main staff, along with his mother June. His aunt Betty has been there for 20 years and then we had some part time staff as well.”
The bittersweet day has come that We can announce the sale of Parklane Bowling Center. As you can imagine, this…
