A new candidate has entered the race for Riverview’s next Mayor.
Deputy Mayor and Councillor at Large for Riverview Andrew Leblanc announced his running in the upcoming municipal election.
He had previously indicated that he would re-offer for his current position before the announcement. Current Mayor Ann Seamans recent decision to not re-offer after nine years in the position was a large factor for LeBlanc’s running.
“I felt like this was a great time for me to put my name forward and use the position to make a difference and continue to support the growth of the town,” said LeBlanc.
The current Deputy Mayor has a detailed background in the community, including his role as the executive director of Atlantic Wellness and as the former program director for the Boys & Girls Club of Riverview.
LeBlanc says that his experience as a community leader is a large factor for why he considers himself to be the best candidate for Mayor.
There is still a long and tall task in front of LeBlanc before he can become mayor, as the election is just under three months away. However, the resident of Ward 1 has already started to outline his top priorities if elected.
“The two most challenging things that we will be facing is supporting our residents as we continue to navigate the Covid-19 pandemic as well as supporting residents through the temporary closure of the causeway,” said LeBlanc.
A detailed platform is expected to be released by LeBlanc in the coming weeks.
Municipal elections will take place on May 10th after the pandemic postponed the original elections that were scheduled for last May.
