The President and CEO of the Greater Moncton Romeo LeBlanc International Airport wants to assure everyone the facility is still open.
Recent airline cuts will soon leave some airports in the region without any flights such as Saint John.
Bernard LeBlanc says it’s been challenging since the pandemic began since most of the airport’s revenue comes from passenger activity.
Last year, the airport had about 675,000 passengers and the forecast this year is only 180,000.
Air Canada and PAL Airlines still serve the airport but WestJet recently cancelled its service and Porter has not resumed flying yet.
PAL Airlines which offers direct flights to St. John’s has said it plans to expand service to Deer Lake and Wabush when pandemic restrictions ease.
However, both Air Transat and Sunwing have no plans to offer sunshine destination flights out of Moncton in 2021.
Although passenger numbers are down dramatically this year, cargo has been remaining steady.
LeBlanc says tonnage actually increased this year but revenue is down about 13 percent since CargoJet reduced its flights.
Also this year, a new cargo air service Bluebird Nordic began serving the airport from Iceland bringing seafood to North American markets.
