Richard Blackstock is seeking election as Town Councillor for Ward 1 in Riverview in the upcoming municipal elections.
Blackstock grew up in the Greater London area of England and has lived in Riverview since 2011 with his wife Andra Phillips, who is from Riverview, and dog Poppy.
He says that back in 2011 he was welcomed with kindness and open arms and he would now like to repay that kindness and generosity back to the community of Riverview.
Blackstock has been a full time Victim Services Coordinator for the Department of Public Safety since 2015 and was part of the Family Information Liaison Unit for the Missing Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Inquiry in February of 2018.
He was a committee member on the Riverview Civic Engagement Committee between 2016 and 2018 and helped to implement live streaming for Riverview Council meetings.
Aditionally, Blackstock volunteers for the Canadian Red Cross Disaster Response Team and was named Riverview Volunteer of the Year in 2012. He currently sits on the Public Safety Advisory Committee dealing with issues in the Riverview, Moncton and Dieppe areas.
Some of the issues he will be placing an emphasis on are community safety, the future temporary closure of the causeway, traffic safety, local economic development and promotion of indoor and outdoor activities for all ages.
