Weather wreaked havoc across the province yesterday.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Hatt says around 14 centimetres, mostly ice pellets fell in the Moncton region.
He says it was unusual to have such an extended length of time with that form of precipitation, “Usually with ice pellets, you will get it as a transition from snow to rain, or transition from snow to ice pellets and then maybe freezing rain or rain. To get an extended period of ice pellets, it doesn’t happen all that often.”
The southern areas of the province got off easier than in the north. Bathurst received around 20 centimetres of snow and Edmundston received around 27 centimetres.
Motorists were advised throughout the days to avoid travel.
At one point throughout the day, RCMP tweeted that travel was not recommended on Highway 2 between Upper Kingsclear and Moncton.
There were just a few closures, and delayed openings in the tri-communities.
Flights was delayed at the Greater Moncton Romeo Leblanc International Airport…
Crews are still trying to clear roads this morning, and that is causing delays for students.
Anglophone East buses are delayed by one hour this morning.
In Francophone South, buses in Moncton, Bouctouche, Cocagne, Saint-Paul, Sainte-Marie, Notre-Dame, Saint-Antoine Dieppe , Memramcook, Shédiac, Grande-Digue, Grand-Barachois and Cap-Pelé are all running one hour late.
