We “fall back” to standard time this weekend and a sleep expert says our bodies actually adjust much better compared to the “spring ahead” time change in March.
Dr. Julie Carrier says we get an extra hour of sleep which is good news since Canadians are typically sleep deprived but our biological clocks still have to adjust.
One of the fastest ways is to expose yourself as much as possible to light.
“Your biological clock can change its biological time but the way it’s changing its time is by looking and integrating the light that you receive during the day,” she notes.
Fortunately, Dr. Carrier says the body only takes a couple of days to get used to the “fall back” change.
Dr. Carrier adds the “spring ahead” change in March is much harder since our biological clock has more difficulty adjusting to going to bed earlier and waking up earlier.
She adds many of us will typically be late for work and the number of car accidents usually increases the next day.
