The New Democratic Party may be struggling in New Brunswick but the federal candidate in Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe believes it’s the only party truly willing to help Canadians.
Luke MacLaren became interested in politics as a child and says he noticed how his family often struggled to make ends meet.
MacLaren says he wants to focus on a critical issue like homelessness in our community and believes his party has the best plan to build affordable housing.
“I read an article a couple weeks ago about a woman who had been living in tent city who was removed with the rest of them, she said she had been on a list for affordable housing in Moncton for 25 years. I was just completely baffled that was happening here in Canada and in Moncton,” he says.
He notes how many people are also on long waiting lists to access mental health services.
With an aging population and labour shortages, MacLaren says welcoming immigrants is also important along with keeping their families together so they’ll stay here and help grow the economy.
MacLaren says the mindset here is a two-party system which often makes it difficult to get some New Brunswickers to even look at the platform of another party.
