The weather continues to get cooler and some New Brunswickers are already thinking about their vacation plans for the upcoming winter season.
Lynn Gaudet, acting manager of The Travel Store, says the Caribbean is always a big draw especially Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.
Although the Dominican has been in the spotlight after a number of tourist deaths, Gaudet says it hasn’t scared off too many travellers noting how things can go wrong anywhere around the globe.
Canadians love Cuba too and she says the tourism industry there has been turning things up a notch in recent years.
“They (travellers) kind of expected that the food was not going to be great and maybe the rooms weren’t as nice as they should be. But the standards in Cuba seem to be going up.”
Gaudet says snowbirds have been booking more exotic locations this year such as Costa Rica along with more extended vacations in Portugal and Spain.
A new direct flight from Moncton to Miami has been announced for this winter which will align with two cruise lines sailing in the Caribbean.
Gaudet adds if flights are cancelled by weather, your ship doesn’t wait but travel insurance provides you with a flight to your first port of call.
