Summer vacations are mostly over and voters may now be paying more attention to politics with a federal election campaign coming soon.
Mount Allison University political science professor Mario Levesque doesn’t believe the Liberals will capture every seat in Atlantic Canada again.
He says several ridings will be up for grabs in October.
“Southwest New Brunswick, around Saint John, the Fredericton area… we could also take a look at Nova Scotia – Central Nova, Peter McKay’s old riding. Those are all ridings that could easily turn blue,” he notes.
Levesque thinks the Liberals will be campaigning on their progress with indigenous people and the environment.
He says Conservative leader Andrew Scheer will be looking to hold the government to account on the SNC-Lavalin affair and the prime minister’s recent ethics breach.
Some of the issues he expects during the campaign include climate change, immigration, the oil industry, international trade and health care.
