A group of Cajuns from Broussard, Louisiana reunited with their Acadian cousins in Cap-Pele during the World Acadian Congress.
The two communities have been twinned since 1984 for various cultural and economic exchanges.
Broussard resident Maxine Duhon visited Cap-Pele more than 30 years ago for the formal twinning ceremony when her husband was a councilman.
Duhon says it’s uncanny how similar the French dialect is between this region and Louisiana.
“We have little slangs and they use the same thing here. We just laugh because it’s something our parents would say. It’s just wonderful… it’s like meeting all of your cousins that you didn’t know you had,” she says.
Duhon adds there are such strong bonds between the Cajuns and the Acadians, it feels like you’re leaving behind friends and family.
