A small business owner on Assomption Boulevard has been concerned about extended street closures due to events on the riverfront for the Acadian World Congress.
Shane Myers owns Starving Artist Creative Works at 80 Assomption which is next door to Riverfront Park.
Myers told Moncton City Council on Monday night that he loves having events downtown but noted how this lengthy 10-day closure of Assomption Boulevard was having an impact.
Myers said he was losing business during a peak time and traffic was getting bottlenecked in the downtown.
If thousands were attending the current events Myers wouldn’t have an issue but he adds at times it has seemed like a ghost town along the riverfront.
City councillors were sympathetic to his concerns and staff were asked to come up with a solution.
Late Tuesday, the City of Moncton announced an adjustment to the closure.
The westbound lanes of Assomption Boulevard will now be open throughout the day and Downing Street will be open to pedestrians from 8am to 8pm until Saturday.
