Premier Blaine Higgs waded into the language issue when making remarks during National Acadian Day celebrations in Dieppe on Thursday.
Higgs notes how New Brunswickers should be improving when it comes to official bilingualism in the province.
“(We have) failed miserably in achieving that and it’s time for us to be better,” said Higgs.
Higgs notes how he and his daughter, who is fluently bilingual, have travelled around the province and discovered areas rich in Acadian culture that they had never experienced before.
“I didn’t appreciate – until I got into politics – just how great and how vibrant and how rich the culture is throughout our province and particularly here in l’Acadie.”
Before entering politics, Higgs said he travelled a lot with his work but didn’t travel much around New Brunswick but he added that is something he wants to change as premier.
