The Department of Fisheries and Oceans is working with other officials to try and determine if a whale found floating off eastern Cape Breton this week is one they have seen before.
They says given the advanced state of decomposition, they are unsure if it is the same whale spotted near Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on June 24th.
A full necropsy is not feasible due to decomposition, but DFO says photos were taken and officials were able to take samples which may provide help in determining the cause of death.
The current right whale death toll in Canadian waters for 2019 stands at eight.
