Preliminary results of the fifth necropsy on a North Atlantic right whale are inconclusive on the cause of death.
The necropsy was conducted Sunday along the north shore of Quebec’s Gaspe peninsula.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says the whale was first observed drifting in the Gulf of St. Lawrence on July 18th.
Veterinarians say the whale was in good condition with no obvious signs of trauma or entanglement.
DFO adds the final conclusions from this and the other recent necropsies will be released in the near future.
So far this year, eight right whales have been found dead in Canadian waters.
