Construction on a second pool that is expected to open this summer continues.
But heavy rain and an early winter snowfall last year caused issues for construction crews.
The East end pool will officially open its gates on Saturday. As for Centennial Beach, Director of Park and Leisure Jocelyn Cohoon says at $5.4 million, it is a much larger and more complicated project.
“We are looking at at least another three weeks to apply the coating to the pool. That is a really integral part, that we need the cooperation of the weather,” Cohoon says.
She says crews are working diligently. The building is around 75 per cent complete, and the are also working on landscaping, “We are going week by week, if not day by day to get updates.”
Cohoon adds, because there wasn’t a pool there previously, there was a lot to do in terms of infrastructure.
“We are trying to get that facility open as quickly as possible. It needs to be commissioned this summer regardless, so it will be filled and it will be tested. We will open the pool as soon as it is ready,” Cohoon says.
