The wait for a new East End pool will finally come to an end on Saturday.
After years of waiting, the $2.3 million facility on Fergus Street will open its doors.
The pool is fully accessible including both pool ladders and a ramp.
Director of Parks and Leisure services with the City of Moncton Jocelyn Cohoon says the pool is heated which will mean the season could be extended, “That could be a potential. What we typically do is evaluate where out attendance is, what the weather looks like and the availability of staff at that time.”
The plan is to keep the pool open until at least the end of August.
The local aquatic clubs are looking after the staffing, “The Codiac Vikings, and Club Natation Bleu et Or are supplying the lifeguards. They have them on standby, and they are ready. They will be coming in tomorrow to do some cleaning and training.”
The 25 metre pool is five feet at its deepest, with a shallow area as well.
“The pool capacity is 200. We know that statistically when you open a pool, you have half the people on the deck and half the people in the pool. Guests will also be able to bring their chairs to set up on deck, “Cohoon says.
It will open on Saturday at 11am to the public. Admission is just 2 dollars to get in, with access for the whole day.
This new pool has been years in the making.
The previous pool closed in 2013 due to disrepair.
