Retirement quickly came to an end for a veteran Catcher with the Moncton Fishercats.
At the age of 40, Mike Ivey is back with the team this season after calling it quits in 2017, “They found themselves in a bit of a bind this year when one of the Catchers wasn’t going to return this year. The other Catcher, the demands of his job along with scheduling is very difficult. I reached out to the team and said if I could help out I would be happy to do so.”
Ivey has now been with the Fishercats for the past 20 years, and he is also the oldest player on the team.
“It is probably the strongest and most competitive league I have played with in all of my career. The young players are really, really good and it’s really fun to be a part of. It is a nice challenge,” Ivey says.
He adds he is also sharing his love of the sport of baseball with his son at home, “Although he is only four, about to turn five, I have offered up the help. I am sure I will follow him a lot more as he gets older. So definitely Coaching is a possibility in the future. As to what level and with who, is yet to be determined.”
The Moncton Fishercats are back in action tomorrow night in Charlottetown, as they take on the Islanders.
