The organization Democracy Watch wants to see an independent investigation into the recent appointment of judges in New Brunswick, by the Trudeau Government.
The judges reportedly have connections to Beausejour MP Dominic Leblanc.
Co-Founder Duff Conacher says they have filed a complaint to the federal ethic commissioner, “But we don’t want the Ethics Commissioner to actually do the investigation and ruling because he was handpicked by the Trudeau cabinet through a secretive and dishonest process. We want him to refer it out to someone independent of his office and independent of all political parties.”
Conacher says they are also calling on the federal Liberals to suspend all judicial appointments until the process is changed, and proven to be independent and merit based.
“It’s very important to have a democratic government that you have impartial people who are enforcing the laws, and they have to be chosen impartially as well. That is why the system has to change,” Conacher says.
Conacher says Dominic LeBlanc should be investigated to determine if he violated the federal ethics law by participating in the decisions to appoint these judges.
“It is dangerously unethical to allow politicians to be involved as much as they are in appointments. People have to have faith when they go before a judge that the judge is impartial and has not been put into place because of their likings in favour of the ruling party,” Conacher adds.”
