The land where a new Hospice for Southeast New Brunswick will be built, was generously donated by a local organization.
A campaign was launched earlier this week to raise five million dollars to build the first residential hospice facility in the region.
It will be constructed on 2.2 hectares of land at 156 Pleasant Street in the Lewisville area.
Gordon Hicks has been a member of the Hum-Lew-Sun Lions Club for 50 years and they donated the land.
“In one corner of it, we have our Lions building. The rest of the property was wide open and we felt it should be used for something,” Hicks says.
Hicks says that was five years ago,”We have waited all this time, and I am so glad it is finally going to happen.”
He says there are three other Hospice locations in the province and it is time Moncton has one.”I felt it was time for Moncton to have a building. There are three other Hospice buildings in the province and it was time we had it.”
The facility will be 11, 700 square feet when it is constructed. There is hope it will be open by the Fall of 2020.
