As a tent city continues to grow in the west end of Albert Street, the City of Moncton is allowing residents to stay but new rules have been established.
No fires, no disruptive behaviour, no generators or vehicles will be allowed and the site must be kept clean.
The City will be adding temporary lighting and is hiring security officers for 24-7 surveillance to ensure the rules are followed.
Officials say residents of the tent city will be evicted just after the new homeless shelter opens in early August.
Some neighbouring residents and businesses have been making complaints and the city has notified them about these changes.
The City adds the objective of the new rules is to ensure everyone remains safe.
