Carbon monoxide detectors are being installed in around 160 schools across the province.
Education Minister Dominic Cardy says they are doing this in an effort to make schools in New Brunswick with fuel fired appliances safer.
These detectors will let off an alert if there is any carbon monoxide present.
Fire Marshall Michael Lewis says poisoning can occur quickly and without notice, because it has no colour, taste or smell.
He adds the detectors are the only way to ensure the safety of students and staff.
