The City of Moncton has closed Jones Lake to recreational activities until further notice, and you are being advised to keep your pets away.
This comes a day after numerous dead fish were found around the banks of the Lake.
The Department of Environment is currently investigating.
City of Moncton spokesperson Isabelle Leblanc says the closure is just precautionary at this time.
“We have not heard anything from the Department of Environment yet. Even though the test results (water) have been good this season, we decided to close it until we are given an indication of what has happened and why, ” Leblanc says.
A Department or Environment spokesperson told us yesterday that an Inspector is making a fish-kill report to the Canadian Coast Guard and other federal and provincial authorities.
RCMP and other city officials are investigating as well.
The Department of Environment says when they checked the area around the Lake, there was no apparent source of land pollution observed.
There’s no word yet on what caused the fish to die.
