Team New Brunswick were big winners at this year’s Skills Canada National Competition held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The 36 members of the team brought back 12 national medals. One person was also named to Team Canada.
More than 550 high schools participated at the competition that displays excellence in various skilled trades and technology.
From the Moncton region, Jared Palmer won the gold medal for refrigeration and air conditioning.
Wesley Allen won silver for his expertise as a sprinkler fitter.
Moncton native, Pascal Doiron was also named as the Automotive Technology representative for Team Canada. He will be heading to World Skills in Russia to compete in August 2019.

Bronze : Carrie Long (Apprenticeship Fredericton Region) – Car Painting
Bronze : Colin Kelly (NBCC Saint John) – Plumbing
In addition to his Gold Medal, Thomas Currier won the ‘Best of Region’ award for the province.
Moncton native, Pascal Doiron was also named as the Automotive Technology representaive for Team Canada and will be heading to WorldSkills in Kazan, Russia to compete in August 2019. Doiron has qualified for the team at the 2018 Skills Canada National Competition held in Edmonton, Alberta and has been training for the las year with his trainer Lloyd Kierstaed who is an instructor at NBCC Moncton. He is the first New Brunswick student to represent automotive technogology at the world level.
