It’s important you notify the City if you receive notification for a water meter replacement.
Many of the meters were originally installed in 1995. A transmitting unit was also installed in 2015, that sends the information on water use to the City, but those are now failing, which means your water use is not being reported.
City of Moncton Water Services Supervisor Julie Stokes says they are currently trying to schedule appointments to have the work done, “Right now, it is city wide. We have hired Contractor Neptune Technology to come and help us, because our rate of failure has increased significantly. They are working in the north end and the east end. Our city crews are working in the downtown west end area.”
The replacement program began in 2013. So far, installs have been done at 6900 homes. Almost 10, 000 still need to be completed.
Stokes says the new meters have no moving parts, which means they are silent.
“We will try three to five attempts via doorknockers or phone calls, but after that, you will receive a letter saying you really should have this down to avoid interruption in your water service,” Stokes says.
If your meter has failed, you are being asked to manually report water usage numbers to the City. Once the new meter is installed, your past charges will be adjusted.
