If you think you see a dragon on Jones Lake over the next couple of days, you’re not hallucinating.
Co-Chair for the 14th annual Dragon Boat races Norval McConnell says this year, they have even more boats on the water, “We started with five boats, four schools. Now we have 31 boats and every Anglophone East school, plus this year we have Louis J Robichaud from Shediac participating.”
There are 20 paddlers, a drummer and one person who steers.
Sixty per cent of the money goes to the Lions Sick Children’s fund, that is the charity that the Dragon Boat races organizers have chosen.
The remainder of the money, goes to various charities chosen by the participating schools, businesses and community groups taking part.
The festival has contributed well over a million dollars.
High school teams compete tomorrow, and other organizations will be on the waters on Saturday.
