A team of Moncton students are heading to Toronto this week, to Reach for the Top.
Two New Brunswick high school teams will go up against schools from other provinces to compete at the National competition.
Bernice MacNaughton High School is one of them.
Mark Finnamore is in Grade 11 and is a senior on the team. He explained how the game is played, “Essentially like trivia. It’s a bit like Jeopardy, but it’s with high school students ringing in with buzzers to answer trivia questions. Anything in the world, from science to music, sports to random facts.”
The team has been training everyday at lunch, preparing themselves for the competition.
Grade 12 student James Cogswell says, “We’ve been either training or watching videos of the nationals, so we know what to expect.”
He adds, the members of the team have to be quick thinking, “It is also based on speed, because you don’t have to wait for the entire question to be read. If you know the answer you just buzz in.”
They’ll leave for Toronto on Thursday and Reach for the Top will be played on the weekend.
Teacher Natasha Leblanc is the Coach for the Bernice MacNaughton High School “Reach For the Top” team.
Kennebecasis Valley High is the other New Brunswick school competing.
