Several hundred people gathered in downtown Moncton on Friday afternoon during the lunch hour for a climate change protest.
An organizer, Alex Arsenault, from a student group at the Universite de Moncton, says the rally is to keep the City of Moncton accountable.
Moncton along with many other cities across Canada recently declared a climate emergency.
Arsenault says the city seems to be going in the opposite direction since it plans to create hundreds more surface parking spots in the downtown.
He believes more initiatives are needed to help curb greenhouse gas emissions such as adding bike lanes, banning single use plastic bags and more community gardens.
He was pleased to see so many people attend the rally noting how climate change will affect everyone.
