Riverview Town Council has approved the rezoning of the next phase of the Fairways residential community.
The developer – Clayton Developments Limited – wants to build semi-detached homes instead of single family homes which has upset some existing residents and neighbours.
Some homeowners were worried about lower property values as a result of the rezoning.
Urban planner Kaitlyn Lacelle told town council the developer will use an arborist to create buffer zones with trees around the two phases.
Lacelle also told council the developer asked a real estate consulting firm – Turner, Drake and Partners Limited – to examine property values.
“(The report stated) the current zoning will actually create a surplus – an oversupply – of land for residential use – being single family dwellings – that is actually not in significant demand.”
The consulting firm added that surplus could actually have a negative impact on property values.
Town Council approved the rezoning with two nay votes from Councillors Jeremy Thorne and Andrew LeBlanc.
