This is April Fool’s Day but it’s no joke that the federal carbon tax is being applied to fossil fuels in New Brunswick starting today.
Prices at the pumps are up by just over 5 cents per litre – that figure includes the actual tax of 4.42 cents per litre plus HST.
Home heating oil is also increasing by about the same amount.
New Brunswick is the only Atlantic province which didn’t come up with its own carbon plan which is why Ottawa is imposing its plan on the province.
The Higgs government is fighting the carbon tax in court along with Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
But the tax is still being applied during the ongoing legal battle.
