Starting April 1st, New Brunswickers will have to start paying a carbon tax which will be applied on fossil fuels including gasoline.
The federal government is offering rebates for individuals and families called the Climate Action Incentive.
Canada Revenue Agency spokesperson Joanne de Waal says you must apply for this incentive through your 2018 tax return.
“If you’re using some of the certified software out there, it’s quite simple because it will walk you through it. If you’re still doing your return by paper, look for the new schedule… schedule 14… which will give us some information about how many members there are in your family.”
The incentive is $128 dollars per individual or $256 dollars for a family of four.
If you live in rural areas outside Greater Moncton or Greater Saint John, the incentive will actually be 10 percent higher.
