Poli-Sci Professor Questions Removal Of Front License Plates

New Brunswick will be the last province in Atlantic Canada to remove front license plates from its vehicles.

This decision was announced in this week’s provincial budget.

Associate Political Science Professor at Mount Allison University Mario Levesque wonders if there are safety concerns from police, “I question what it means from a safety perspective, and I would look to the opinion of our police and fire services.   I have read from reports, and from what they’ve said, they advise against the removal because it is another tool that helps them with their work. I would trust their judgement and would say it is ill advised.”

Levesque feels the decision by the Conservative government to remove the front license plates, is pure politics, “It is just a diversion by the Conservatives to satisfy the supporters and members of the Peoples Alliance party”

When asked on budget day, Finance Minister Ernie Steeves told us, police in the province were consulted by the government before a final decision was made.
