The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton believes the Higgs government has placed its hand on the rudder of the provincial ship and is making a slow turn toward safer waters.
But Chamber CEO John Wishart says it’s not the 180 degree turn that many were expecting.
He thought the province would make even deeper cuts to programs and services.
“The government expects to pay down $49 million on the net debt in this fiscal year. That will be the first time in 13 years that the debt has actually had a payment made against it… so that’s a very positive message to the community.”
Wishart says it was disappointing the province didn’t cut the small business tax or eliminate the double taxation on non-owner occupied homes.
