This is the 30th anniversary of International Women’s Day being formally recognized in Moncton.
The PSAC (Public Service Alliance of Canada) regional women’s committee has organized an event tonight which will benefit the YWCA Moncton.
Chairperson Heather Fraser says women should be recognized for their accomplishments.
“It’s time that we start appreciating the value women have… whether it’s in the workplace or at home. That’s what this event is all about… it’s about celebrating women and what they bring to our community,” she notes.
A number of speakers will be attending including Moncton mayor Dawn Arnold, YWCA executive director Michele Nadeau, Sherry Wilson, Minister of Women’s Equity NB and Anne Cosman, who started International Women’s Day in Moncton 30 years ago.
The event will also feature wine, cheese and hors d’oeuvres along with a silent auction and door prizes.
The anniversary celebration is being held at the Moncton Lions Community Centre tonight from 6:30 to 9:30pm.
