Meteorological spring has arrived in New Brunswick.
Of course that doesn’t guarantee that warmer weather is here for the season.
The Weather Network recently unveiled its spring forecast for the province.
But how can they predict the forecast so far in advance?
Meteorologist Michael Carter says some of the tools include computer models using simulations of the atmosphere, examining world weather such as El Nino in the Pacific and air pressure patterns over the Arctic and looking back into the history books.
“We look in the past for previous years with similar patterns and similar sorts of fingerprints… because that can actually give us a good indication of how things might play out again under similar conditions in theĀ upcoming spring.”
The Weather Network believes the province will have average temperatures and precipitation this spring but consistently warm weather may not arrive until early April.
While meteorological spring covers the months of March, April and May, astronomical spring will arrive on March 20th at 6:59pm ADT.
