The New Brunswick Anti-Shale Gas Alliance doesn’t understand the rationale behind lifting the fracking moratorium in the province – particularly in the Sussex region.
Spokesperson Jim Emberger claims the shale gas industry is bankrupt and only continues to operate because it can borrow money.
Emberger says the Higgs government stance simply doesn’t make sense.
“Scientists, economists… anybody will tell you that the way to fight climate change is that you must produce fewer emissions. He (Premier Blaine Higgs) wants to start an entire new industry here which will put huge amounts of greenhouse gas emissions into the air,” he notes.
Emberger is scratching his head about the urgency of lifting the moratorium.
One of the main industry players in New Brunswick is Corridor Resources.
He says the company has indicated it won’t be doing any exploration until at least 2021.
