The search for socks continues.
Last month, Mike Hayes of Moncton set out to collect 500 pairs of new adult socks.
This is a part of the We Be Us campaign to see 20, 000 pairs of socks across the country, donated to the homeless on February 22nd.
Hayes has far surpassed his goal. As of yesterday, he was on his way to 2000 pairs of socks, and he expects to exceed that by Friday, “When you have a set of warm feet, The rest of your body is warm too, so socks are definitely all shelters are in need of.”
Hayes says he will be donating the socks to the Humanity Project, and to the Salvus Clinic, who will be distributing the socks to the Out of the Cold Shelter.
“Socks that are needed are mainly for men and women, or universal socks, I guess you could say. They don’t have a big need for children’s socks, but the one criteria is that the socks need to be new. They can also come in all different sizes,” Hayes says.
There’s still time to make a sock donation. They can be dropped off at DNA Swag until February 20th.
Hayes plans to do this again next year, “My plan is to participate in it annually because it is such a need in our community and all across Canada. There’s nothing like having a set of warm feet right?”
