The Shepody Healing Centre in Dorchester is expanding.
The federal government has announced a proposal to build a new facility with 155 beds which is an increase of 87 mental health beds.
The concept of a so-called Health Centre of Excellence comes from a Correctional Service Canada working group.
A request for proposals for pre-design services will be issued later this year.
The working group will be meeting with stakeholders including members of the Dorchester Penitentiary’s Citizens Advisory Committee to further develop plans for the facility.
