Students from across Anglophone East will be in the Hub City tomorrow, looking to make the best moves.
Math and Science Subject Coordinator Sandra Stockall says they are all lovers of Chess, “This is the largest participation year. We have over 140 Chess players coming. Our youngest this year is in Kindergarten, right to grade 12.”
Stockall says Chess is a game that teaches a lot of important life skills including perseverance, critical thinking, patience and problem solving.
“It is one of those competencies that every child can use,” Stockall says.
For those who haven’t played the game before, Stockall says it can be a difficult one to learn, “But like everything else, you have to keep trying and if you’re interested, the more you play, the better you get.”
Tomorrow’s Chess tournament is being held at Bernice MacNaughton High School starting at 9am.
First, second and third place winners at each grade level move onto a provincial competition to be held in Saint John.
