The mix of rain, freezing rain and snow, with fluctuating temperatures has some wondering what is going on the with the weather.
The common question is climate change to blame? And will this be what we can expect for our winters in Atlantic Canada in years to come?
Environment Canada Meteorologist Marshall Hawkins says whether or not this will become the norm, he couldn’t say for sure, “Because the big thing about long term averages and changing overall weather patterns is that you can’t consider just one season or one storm to be explicit evidence of itself. It is more on the average of, if this winter is like this and the next winter is like this, and the next one, then that becomes a truer signal.”
Hawkins says you can’t look at one season and base your determination on that. He says it is more on the long term average of things to determine whether it will be the new style of winter.
