Atlantic Canada hasn’t really gained anything in the federal cabinet shuffle according to the Conservative shadow minister for the region.
Rob Moore says MP Scott Brison left behind a senior portfolio and the new junior cabinet position of Rural Economic Development was created.
While he wishes Nova Scotia MP Bernadette Jordan all the best in her new job, Moore questions why it took an election year to make changes.
“What we are seeing here is a government that is trying to make up for past mistakes. One of them being the appointment of an MP for Mississauga as the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency minister.”
Moore says that move was not well received in the region since the ACOA portfolio had always been held by an Atlantic Canadian.
He adds that role would have also included rural economic development issues.
