Canada’s current population is about 37.3 million but if you want to dig even deeper, a new interactive learning tool is now online.
Statistics Canada has unveiled a population clock on its website which breaks down demographic events like births, deaths and interprovincial migration.
Statscan spokesperson Patrick Charbonneau says the while the clock is in real-time, it is only a simulation based on existing data from population estimates and recent trends.
As an example, Charbonneau says births are determined from data that shows there is one birth every 1 minute and 24 seconds in Canada.
The population clock also tracks the number of immigrants, emigrants and non-permanent residents in each province and territory.
While the information is considered accurate, he adds the population clock is not meant to be used by any organization for decision making.
