The Food Depot Alimentaire has been holding its 50/50 draws each week since 2013, but those buying tickets are going to notice a couple of changes for the New year.
President Dale Hicks says they are moving the draw from Monday to Wednesday, “Sunday is always our biggest sales period, for the last 24 hours. Sometimes, when we’ve had the big draws the system became overwhelmed and shut itself down. It is more convenient to be doing it on a Wednesday than on a Monday morning.”
Hicks says the largest amount raised was almost $120,000, so the winner received around $59,000.
Another change will be the chance to pre-purchase tickets for up to a year.
“We’ve had people in the past drawn as non-winners, because they hadn’t purchased their ticket that week.. One of my good friends lost $17, 000, and I knew where he was, in Florida. So we are giving those types of people the chance to purchase several months ahead of time,” Hicks says.
Many of the regular players, use, volunteer or donate to the Food Depot Alimentaire, “This Christmas, one of our clients won the draw. She had been registered for a Christmas box. She came into the Peter McKee Centre and told them to take her name off the list. Instead, she donated $100 so they could buy a box for someone,” Hicks says.
