The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Moncton says the region’s economy could be described as hot in 2018.
CEO John Wishart says a lot of construction took place and many jobs were created.
But he notes how the business community did hit the pause button in the fall.
“Obviously we had a bit of uncertainty later in the year regarding the provincial election results and that created a state of limbo. But things seem to be smoothing out and solidifying as we end the year here.”
Wishart says one of the biggest challenges the region is having is being able to fill all available jobs.
Growing the labour force will continue to be an issue in 2019 and Wishart adds immigration is part of the solution.
Wishart says the Chamber is involved with mentoring newcomer entrepreneurs who may not be familiar with the local business culture.
He adds they also want to match newcomers with local businesses which are either being sold or the owners are retiring.
