One of the recipients who was honoured this week, with the Order of Moncton says it is still sinking in.
Norval McConnell says it was a surreal experience, “I looked at the past recipients and I wonder, how do I fit into this group? It is a remarkable, broad, inclusive group that have made tremendous differences in the areas of the arts, community growth and seniors. For me, the focus was really on youth.”
Flora Dell, who is a seniors activist, and Bernard Lord, the former New Brunswick Premier, were also recognized.
“It’s all about the people and all of the people along the way that supported me and helped me and advised and were there when I did things wrong and did things right. They helped to shape the person that I am now, ” McConnell says.
McConnell was recognized for his many years of involvement in helping to develop youth sport..
He says the next step is to pay it forward, “There are people that I have encountered in my life that I have seen do unbelievable, consistent, long term things to make this community a better place.”
