A reminder to carefully check your Christmas decorations and don’t overload extension cords.
Moncton Fire was called to a fire in a Lynwood Drive home at around 10am Thursday morning.
It broke out a stairwell that was decorated with Christmas lights.
Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says they quickly extinguished the fire, but there is significant smoke damage to the home.
Fire Prevention Division Chief Charles Leblanc says you should not overload power bars with plugs for Christmas lights, and if you have extension cords, they should not be wrapped altogether.
He also says you should never leave the Christmas lights on at night, or when you are not home.
In this case Leblanc says things could have been a lot worse if the fire had started at night.
