It was a busy weekend down back at Turkey Central.
Over 700 turkeys have now been collected as of last night, for the Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters turkey drive.
This year’s goal is 4132.
Moncton firefighter Christopher Jackson says as the turkeys come in, they are all kept on site at the St. George Blvd fire station, “When you come into Turkey Central, we have a small cooler inside that holds probably 100 to 200 turkeys. We then transfer them to the hampers which go into a refrigerated truck which is also on site at Turkey Central as well.”
He says they see a lot of people stop by to drop off their turkeys, “We are running at full steam now, and we expect to see a lot of great people coming in and bringing in their turkeys.”
The drive lost a day this year due to bad weather, but Jackson says they are confident they will reach their goal,”People come through. People of Southeastern New Brunswick, and greater Moncton see the need of bringing in the turkeys, to ensure that everyone registered in the program has a turkey at Christmas time.”
Turkey central is open everyday from 10 until 7 until December 7th…..
All of the turkeys will be used for the Christmas food boxes that will be distributed on December 20th to homes that need them.
