Some members of the Southeast Female Hockey Association will be sporting a special sticker on their helmet, to support a Moncton City Councillor.
SEFHA President Bruce Rutherford says around 80 players are currently wearing the stickers, that features the initials SC, along with a purple cancer ribbon and the number 16.
“It is being worn on the left side of the helmet, which is close to the heart, Basically to show our support for Shawn Crossman and his daughter Isabelle Crossman. Shawn was a coach with us last year, and his daughter played with us last year. It is just to show our support while he goes through cancer treatment,” Rutherford says.
Crossman, who is a City Councillor for Ward 1 was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in July…
“I thought of this after Shawn was diagnosed and worked on it through the summer. I contacted Shawn to see if he would be okay if we did this, which he was. Then we had the stickers printed out and I reached out to Hockey New Brunswick to have them approved,” Rutherford says.
Currently, there are around 80 girls in Zone A wearing the stickers. Rutherford says they haven’t rolled the initiative out in Zone B yet.
