Moncton residents will see their annual water and wastewater bills rise by approximately $28 as Council approved a slight rate increase for 2019.
Deputy Treasurer for the City of Moncton Andrea Flanders says according to provincial standards, the average customer is expected to use 272 cubic metres of water.
“I will tell you that provincial standard is represented by un-metred customers, that our average customer is much closer to about 190 cubic metres, which is about 47.5 cubic metres quarterly,” says Flanders.
Flanders says the average family of four in Moncton will be paying about $7 extra every quarter with this rate change.
In budget deliberations this week, Council reviewed the $155.8 million dollar operations budget, the $45.5 million capital budget, and the $39.4 million utilities budget – the property tax rate is expected to stay steady at $1.6497 per $100 of assessed value.
The budgets must be accepted in principle Friday November 9th, before coming back to Council’s next public meeting on December 3rd.
