What started as a dumpster fire behind a Main Street business overnight, quickly spread to the second floor of the building.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says they arrived at Main and Botsford Streets, at around 1am this morning to find both a dumpster and a building burning.
Firefighters attacked the flames and extinguished them quickly,”When we arrived the dumpster was fully engulfed. It was a large dumpster and there were enough fire that it extended to the second floor and it ended up catching as well.”
He says the first arriving crew was from the Botsford Station, “We advanced a line onto the second floor from the rear of the building next to the dumpster fire and attacked the dumpster fire and fire on the second floor at the same time. They did a great job attacking the fire.”
Firefighters were able to get it under control withing 20 minutes.
Fire investigators and RCMP are currently on scene and Gaudet says right now, they are viewing this as a suspicious fire.
He says they’ll also be looking to find out if there are surveillance cameras in the area.
